Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Warhawks Battle Back; but Pioneers Come Out on Top

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's basketball team used a second-half push to close the game within one-point, but No. 12 UW-Platteville came out on top in the Top 25 match-up.

The Pioneers found the first basket of the night, but the Warhawks started off the game with a 7-0 run to take the lead. UW-Platteville responded back with a 10-0 run of their own and didn't look back from there, quickly taking over the first half. At the break, UW-Platteville had the 41-29 lead, fueled by 51.4% shooting from the floor (18 for 35).

Coming out the break, the Pioneers took their biggest lead of the night at 15 points. But the Warhawks kept themselves in the game, making the tough baskets and slowly pulling the game within reach.

An 8-0 Warhawk run with 11:27 on the clock brought the game within single digits. During that run, Delvin Barnstable (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan Lutheran) made two of his five three pointers of the night.

Platteville looked to retain the double-digit lead, but the Warhawks kept fighting and finding ways to get the ball in the hoop.

With 4 minutes left, another D. Barnstable three-pointer kickstarted a 7-0 run to bring the game within two points (64-62).

The Warhawks brought the game within 1-point twice, but UW-Platteville kept finding a way to stay one step ahead. Elijah Lambert (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) made two lay-ups in the last 20 seconds, but the Pioneers closed out the game on the free throw line, taking home the 77-73 victory.

D. Barnstable led the Warhawks with 19 points, making all five of his three-point attempts. He also swatted away three shots in the contest. Miles Barnstable (Sheboygan, Wis./Howards Grove) added in 17 points of his own.

Lambert recorded his first collegiate double-double, scoring 14 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. James Kelley (Milwaukee, WI/St. John's Northwestern Military Academy) also was active on the glass, pulling down 13 rebounds to go with his 9 points. The Warhawks dominated on the glass, outrebounding Platteville 40-30

The Pioneers were led by Logan Pearson with 22 points.
