Men's Hoops Fall after Blue Devil Buzzer-Beater

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater fell to UW-Stout on Saturday evening after the Blue Devils hit a shot as time was expiring to defeat the Warhawks, 84-83.

The game started out as a shoot-out, with both teams trading baskets for much of the first half. UW-Whitewater started to slowly pull away from the Blue Devils around the 8-minute mark, with an 8-0 run extending the lead to 10 points.

The Blue Devils chipped away, but for the rest of the half, the Warhawks kept the lead between five and seven points, before closing out the half on a run of their own. The Warhawks pulled away in the last few minutes of the half, entering the break up 46-35.

The Warhawks used the momentum that they had at the end of the first, to keep the lead in the second half. With 13-minutes remaining, the Warhawks had their largest lead of the night at 17-points.

From there, the Blue Devils went on a run of their own, with a 16-4 stretch over the next six minutes. In the final 4-minutes, another 12-3 run brought it within one at 80-79.

After Warhawk free throws, Stout lost the ball but recovered to find the open shooter to take their first lead since 18:25 in the first half.

Miles Barnstable (Sheboygan, Wis./Howards Grove) put the Warhawks back up on top after an acorbatic jump shot put UWW up 83-82. But UW-Stout used the final seconds to make a buzzer beater shot and sealed the game, 84-83.

Trevon Chislom (McFarland, Wis./McFarland) led the Warhawks in the scoring column, with 26 points and 7 rebounds. Miles Barnstable (Sheboygan, Wis./Howards Grove) added 19 points of his own, going a perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line.

James Kelley (Milwaukee, WI/St. John's Northwestern Military Academy) recorded a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Jameer Barker (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) rounded out the scoring with 10 points of his own.

Stout was led by Brody Fox with 35 points.

UW-Whitewater men's hoops will return home for their next conference game, taking on UW-Platteville at home on Wednesday, January 17th at 7 PM.
