The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater football team opens the 2023 campaign Saturday at John Carroll University, a member of the Ohio Athletic Conference, at 1:30 p.m. Eastern Time at Don Shula Stadium in University Heights, Ohio.
The Warhawks are ranked 11th in the D3football.com Preseason Poll. In the final poll of 2022, the Warhawks were ranked 16th according to the American Football Coaches Association. Heading into the 2023 campaign JCU is ranked 19th on the
D3football.com list. The Blue Streaks were receiving votes in the final AFCA poll of last season.
UW-Whitewater is predicted to win the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference this season after securing its 39th league championship in 2022. The Warhawks have captured at least a share of the WIAC title 14 of the last 17 seasons.
For the second consecutive season, the Warhawks will open with multiple ranked opponents. The first six weeks of the 2023 campaign are against opponents ranked in the D3football.com Preseason Top 25. After Saturday's meeting at No. 19 John Carroll, UWW will host No. 5 Saint John's in a rematch of the season opener a year ago. The Warhawks are back on the road at No. 3 UMHB in Belton, Texas in week three. On the other side of the bye week, UW-Whitewater opens WIAC play at #21 UW-Oshkosh. The Warhawks' annual Family Fest weekend on October 7th will see #12 UW-La Crosse visit The Perk before heads to #23 UW-River Falls on October 14th.
John Carroll finished second to perennial powerhouse Mount Union in the Ohio Athletic Conference last season. The Blue Streaks were 8-2 on the season in 2022.

This is the second meeting between the Warhawks and Blue Streaks. The team's lone other meeting was in a quarterfinal of the NCAA Tournament on December 3, 2016. John Carroll won that contest 31-14 in Whitewater.
