The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater baseball team topped Carroll University 14-2 in seven innings on the road Wednesday afternoon.
The Warhawks put up a nine-spot over the first to innings to take a handy lead. They plated four more in the fourth and wrapped up the scoring with a single run in the top of the seventh.
UWW blasted 16 hits in the game including four doubles and a triple.
Sam Paden (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) notched two of the doubles while
Matt Scolan (Downers Grove, Ill./South) and
Darryl Jackson (Milwaukee, Wis./Rufus King) had the other two. Three of those doubles plated runs in the first two innings.
Adam Cootway (DePere, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) registered the triple.
Paden, Cootway and
Matt Korman (Waterford, Wis./Waterford Union) combined to go 9-12 at the plate with 9 RBI and 7 runs scored.
Trey Bretl (Marinette, Wis./Marinette) picked up the win on the mound Wednesday. He struck out three while allowing one earned run on two hits to improve to 3-0.
Carson Bresser (Waupun, Wis./Waupun) registered the start and went 3.0 innings while
Logan Eisenbarth (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) closed the game with the final two innings on the mound.
The now 24-11 Warhawks will wrap up the regular season with a four-game home series against UW-Platteville this weekend. Friday's doubleheader is scheduled for a 1 pm start and Saturday's twinbill will begin at noon. The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament is slated for May 11-13. UWW is currently fourth in the league standings with an 11-9 WIAC mark.
