The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater baseball team came back from an early deficit to top Carthage 14-8.
The Firebirds posted three runs in the bottom of the first but the Warhawks responded with a six-spot in the second. UWW used singles by
Sam Paden (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville),
Bennett Frazer (Oconto, Wis./Oconto) and
Darryl Jackson (Milwaukee, Wis./Rufus King), a
Ryan Norton (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac) triple, four walks and a Carthage miscue to bat around the order in the frame.
Carthage reclaimed the lead with four runs in the bottom of the second. UW-Whitewater would allow just one more run the rest of the way while the offense put up multiple runs in the fourth, fifth and seventh and a single run in the ninth.
Jackson was a perfect 3-3 with two walks, two RBI and four runs scored.
Jacob DeMeyer (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander) also posted three hits in the contest.
Five Warhawk hurlers saw action in the game.
Carson Bresser (Waupun, Wis./Waupun) tossed 4.2 innings of relief to pick up his first win of the season.
Eli Frank (Bayport, Wis./Bay Port),
Austin Baker (Katy, Texas/Taylor) and Paden finished out the game for UWW.
