The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater softball team split a pair of games against Illinois Wesleyan University Sunday as the Warhawks honored the 2023 senior class. UWW took the opener 4-0 and fell in the nightcap 7-0. After the doubleheader, the Warhawks honored seniors
Sydney Anderson (Delavan, Wis./Delavan-Darien),
Mallory Hollatz (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township),
Kathryn Kinsella (Chicago, Ill./Loyola Academy) and
Krista Sbarra (West Chicago, Ill./St. Charles East).
Grace Wickman (Wausaukee, Wis./Peshtigo) opened the scoring with an RBI groundout in the bottom of the third.
Kiarra Kostroski (Fort Atkinson, Wis./Fort Atkinson) had a hand in the rest of the scoring for the Warhawks in game one. In the bottom of the third, she singled to left field to score Sbarra. Then in the fifth, she laced a ball to left center for a no-doubter, a two-run blast to give the Warhawks the 4-0 lead.
Wickman and Kostroski each went 2-3 at the plate combining for four RBI and two runs scored.
Maddy Anderson (Waukesha, Wis./North) pitched another gem scatting four hits across the complete seven innings in the circle. She struck out seven without issuing a walk to pick up her second win in as many days.
The Titans turned the tables on the Warhawks in game two as a two-run homer in the first sparked IWU's offense. They ended up scoring seven runs on nine hits in the game.
UWW registered six hits, all by different Warhawks. In the circle,
Kate Cleveland (DePere, Wis./Ashwaubenon) suffered the loss to fall to 2-2 on the season.
