The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's and women's track and field teams competed in three difference Last Chance Meets this weekend.
Friday, the Warhawks sent a number of athletes to compete in the Firebird Finale hosted by Carthage.
Chris Bitz (Brookfield, Wis./East) posted a season best to win the pole vault with a height of 4.62 meters (15-1.75). That mark is currently a top 50 height in Division III.
Adam Giljohann (Menomonie, Wis./Menomonie) also competed in the event. On the women's side,
Margaret Helbig (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park and River Forest) tallied a season best height of 3.49 meters (11-5.25) and
Carleen Snow (Rio, Wis./DeForest) posted a height of 3.19 meters (10-5.5) for top ten finishes.
Christian Crump (Kenosha, Wis./Bradford) and
Tim Neumann (Waukesha, Wis./South) posted season bests in the long jump. Crump's leap of 6.66 meters (21-10.25) was good for fourth while Neumann registered a distance of 6.26 meters (20-6.5) for eighth.
In the throws,
Sean Larsen (Waukesha, Wis./South) notched his season best in the weight throw with a distance of 16.45 meters (53-11.75) for fifth.
Kenni Czarnecki (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) was sixth in the weight throw with a heave of 16.13 meters (52-11) while teammate
Mikayla Madlena (Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) also competed in the event.
Marlon Cystrunk (DeForest, Wis./DeForest) was also in action Friday competing in the 60 hurldes at UW-Platteville. Clocked in 8.14, tied for third fastest in program history, Cystrunk is tied for 14th in Division III in the event.
UW-Whitewater was represented at a pair of meets Saturday. At Wartburg,
Dan Anderson (Eau Claire, Wis./McDonell) crossed the line in 8:29.29 in the 3,000 meter run, a season best, to finish fifth. His time is the ninth fastest in program history in the indoor 3,000.
Colin Lewandowski (Elmhurst, Ill./York) and
Rhett Reuter (Darlington, Wis./Darlington) both competed in the 800. Lewandowski's time of 1:56.31 was a season best for him in the event.
Ari De La Cerda (Milwaukee, Wis./Pewaukee) broke the program record in the mile with a time of 5:00.60, a top 40 time in Division III. That mark surpassed the previous record set in 2006 by 2022 UW-Whitewater Hall of Fame inductee Megan (Kielar) Carstens.
Paige Fassbender (Slinger, Wis./Slinger) registered an all-time indoor personal best in the 800 with a clocking of 2:15.40 to finish eighth. That mark is 26th on the national honor roll.
Katie Erb (Winnebago, Ill./Winnebago) won her heat of the 800 with a time of 2:22.27 to finish 16th overall.
At Ripon,
Josh Krystosek (Palmyra, Wis./Palmyra-Eagle) won the high jump with a height of 1.92 meters (6-3.50). Teammate
Spencer Steffen (Appleton, Wis./West) posted the same height, his season best, taking third on jumps.
Rebecca Lawrence (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander) and
Kiara McKowen (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower) registered the same height for the women with a leap of 1.46 meters (4-9.5).
In the track events at Ripon,
Jacqueline Kornowski (Green Bay, Wis./Preble) tallied a pair of season bests. She was clocked in 8.03 in the 60 and 26.38 in the 200, both runner up finishes at the meet.
Cam Hughes (St. Charles, IL/North) and
Carsen Rindt (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) finished in seventh and eighth respectively in the 60. Hughes crossed the line in 7.01 with Rindt just .01 behind. The pair finished fourth and eighth in the 200. Hughes' time of 22.76 is his season best while Rindt was clocked in 23.36.
Sarah Nieheuser registered her best of the season in the 400 with a time of 1:01.59.
