University of Wisconsin-Whitewater freshman
Zaria Terry (Madison, Wis./La Follette) (Madison, Wis./La Follette) wrapped up her journey in the 2023 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships with the 100 freestyle Saturday. The championship meet is being held in Greensboro, N.C.
Terry registered a time of 52.22 in the preliminaries to finish 39th.Â
The freshman wrote her name in the program record book setting the school record in the 100 free with a time of 50.80. She is the first Warhawk women's swimmer to compete at nationals since Jessica Lenhart in 2018. Renata Schlomann was officially invited in 2020 for her 50 freestyle, but the championship was canceled due to the pandemic.
Terry dove onto the scene in her first collegiate campaign in the pool. In addition to writing her name in the UWW record book, Terry claimed three gold medals at the 2023 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships -- first in the 50 free, then the 100 fly and finally the 100 freestyle in record time. Her performance led to Swimmer of the Meet and Newcomer of the Year honors at the conference championships. She is the first Warhawk swimmer, men's or women's, to garner both Swimmer of the Meet and Newcomer of the Year recognition in the same championship.Â
