Swim & Dive Opens up WIAC With Dual against UW-Oshkosh

The Men take the match 196-92, while the Women fall 158-141

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's & women's swim & dive teams opened their conference season with a dual against UW-Oshkosh. UWW excelled in their matchup against UWO, with a strong overall performance to win 196-92. The women's team was in a closely contested race, falling 156-141.

To start the day, the men's team took the top two spots in 200 Medley Relay, with the team of Matt Bricco, Brenden Spaulding (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead), Ethan Bergman (Kenosha, Wis./Bradford), & Noah Johnson (DeKalb, Ill./DeKalb) finishing first at 1:40.20. Closely behind, Dom Schlueter (South Elgin, Ill./South Elgin), Trisan Saucego, Matt Ozog (Bartlett, Ill./South Elgin), & Ethan Schmoe timed in at 1:41.00. 

Bergman also was a standout performer in the individual sprints, winning the 200 Freestyle in 1:49.81 and the 100 Freestyle with a 48.46.

Daniel Madson (Kiel, Wis./Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah) led the way in the men's distance events, taking first in the 1000 Yard Freestyle with a time of 10:38.50 and also securing the 500 Yard Freestyle.
 
The women's team also had success from the beginning. The 200 Medley Relay team of Izzy Doczy (Greendale, Wis./Greendale), Hailey Vogel (Rockwell City, Iowa/Fort Dodge), Jenna Denton (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon), & Grace Linstroth (Port Washington, Wis./Port Washington) clocked in at 1:51.56 to take first.

Denton and Vogel both delivered a strong performance in their individual events as well. Denton won the 100 Backstroke with a time of 1:00.62 and the 100 Butterfly with a time of 1:01.28. Vogel dominated the breaststroke events, taking first in the 100 Breaststroke in 1:08.07 and the 200 Breaststroke with 2:37.42. 

Nikolina Gallo (Greendale, Wis./Greendale) also had a strong day in the distance events, placing 2nd in the 1000 freestyle (11:35.42), 3rd in the 500 Freestyle (5:39.93), & 2nd in the 200 IM.

Addi Sanow (Munster, Ind./Munster) & Carly Pierzchalski (Crystal Lake, Ill./Harry D Jacobs) backed each other up in the 200 Freestyle, with a 2:04.09 & 2:04.29 finish respectively for the top two spots.

In the diving events, the Warhawks had a strong showing from both he men's & women's side. Drew Scmitz topped the 1 meter dive with a 243.45, ranking third in the UWW record book. On the women's side, Olivia Santigao took 3rd in the 1 meter (200.85) & 2nd in the 3 meter (197.32).

The Warhawks will welcome UW-Stevens Point to the Williams Center for their next WIAC contest on November 15th.

- Men's 200 Yard Medley Relay — UWW 'B' won with a time of 1:40.20; UWW 'A' placed second.
- Women's 200 Yard Freestyle Relay — UWW 'A' claimed first in 1:28.93; UWW 'B' took third.

Individual Swimming

- 1000 Yard Freestyle — Men: Madson secured first place with a time of 10:38.50; Zak Nowakowski (DeForest, Wis./DeForest) followed in second. Women: Nikolina Gallo (Greendale, Wis./Greendale) second with a time of 11:35.42

- 200 Yard Freestyle — Men: Bergman won in 1:49.81; Caleb Weis (Burlington, Wis./Burlington) placed third. Women: Addi Sanow (Munster, Ind./Munster) won with a 2:04.09 with Carly Pierzchalski (Crystal Lake, Ill./Harry D Jacobs) in second with a 2:04.29

- 100 Yard Backstroke — Men: Ethan Schmohe (Sullivan, Ill./Sullivan) finished first, clocking 55.11. Women: Denton won with a 1:00.62

- 100 Yard Breaststroke — Men: Owen Phillips (Ottawa, Ill./Ottawa Township) took second; Noah Johnson (DeKalb, Ill./DeKalb) placed third. Women: Vogel secured first place with a 1:08.07

- 200 Yard Butterfly — Men: Daniel Keller (Omaha, Neb./Papillion-LaVista) finished first with a time of 2:05.72, Matt Sipin (Round Lake, Ill./Grayslake Central) third. Women: Paige Malitz (Wausau, Wis./DC Everest) finished third

- 50 Yard Freestyle — Men: Dom Schlueter (South Elgin, Ill./South Elgin) led with a 22.03; Braydon Campbell finished third. Women: Grace Linstroth (Port Washington, Wis./Port Washington) placed first overall with a 25.75

- 100 Freestyle — Men: Bergman, Schlueter, Phillips finished 1/2/3. Women: Sanow placed third overall

- 200 Backstroke — Men: Schmoe won with a 2:03.57. Women: Hannah Wenszell (West Bend, Wis./Wisconsin Virtual), second with a 2:19.61

- 200 Breaststroke — Men: Noah Johsnon won with a 2:19.54. Women: Vogel placed first at 2:37.43

- 500 Freestyle — Men: Madson & Weis finish top two. Women: Gallo places third

- 200 Yard IM — Daniel Keller (Omaha, Neb./Papillion-LaVista) captured first with a time of 2:03.41.

Diving
- 1 mtr Diving — Drew Schmitz (Appleton, Wis./North) took first place with a score of 243.45.
- 3 mtr Diving — Olivia Santiago (Auburn, Cal./Placer) placed second with a score of 197.32.
