The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's soccer team ran into a stalemate with UC Santa Cruz in the quarterfinal round of the C2C playoffs. After 110 scoreless minutes, the game went into penalty kicks, with the Banana Slugs advancing 5-4.
The game was back in forth in the first half, with both teams working their way up and down the field. UW-Whitewater had some good looks on corner opportunities, taking three in the first half compared to the Banana Slug's zero.
The shots were matched in the first half, with each team taking two shots on goal, but after the first 45 minutes, the game remained tied 0-0.
The second half was even as well, with the teams matching each other in corner kick opportunities. The Warhawks and Banana Slugs each had 4 corner opportunities in the second half.
UW-Whitewater did have the edge in shots, with two on goal compared to UC-Santa Cruz with one. But after 90 minutes, neither team could find the back of the net, sending the game into overtime.

Jacob Mouille (Waunakee, Wis./Waunakee) sent a rocket of a shot straight towards the goal off a free kick, but the Banana Slug keeper made the save. UC-Santa Cruz also sent a shot towards goal, but
Duncan Morgan (Oregon, Wis./Oregon) made the save, sending the game into a second overtime.
The Warhawks opened the second overtime with a kick shot on goal.
Miles Hagen (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way West) sent one high only a minute into the period, setting the tone for the Warhawks.
The Warhawks controlled the ball in their offensive zone for most of the overtime period, the
Peyton Nichols (Green Bay, Wis./Bayport) put a shot on goal, but the keeper made the save, sending the game into penalty kicks.
Both teams started out hot in the penalty kicks, making the first four before UC-Santa Cruz made a save. The Banana Slugs and Warhawks made the rest of theirs, but the one save was all the Slugs needed, advancing 5-4 on PKs.
