Netters Battle for Five Set Road Win

The No. 8 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater volleyball team took down UW-Eau Claire on the road 3-2 (23-25, 25-22, 25-21, 24-26, 15-8) in their first five-set match of the season. 

The Warhawks trailed by six in the first two sets of the match. The Blugolds grabbed the opener in front of their home crowd before UWW secured the comeback to even the match in set two. Ally Warburton (St. Charles, Ill./North) was phenomenal in set two hammering down six kills without committing an attack error. 

Set three was a back-and-forth battle until late when the Warhawks scored five of the last seven points to take a 2-1 lead in the match. Warburton continued her efficiency at the net with three kills in seven attempts with zero errors. 

UW-Whitewater took the lead in the fourth but a late run for UWEC evened the score. The Warhawks held a 24-21 advantage when the host rattled off five straight for the win to force a decisive fifth set. 

In the final set, UWW opened up a hefty advantage, 6-2, and cruised to the 15-8 win. The Warhawks put together their best set of the match offensively hitting .278 as a team with just a single attack error. 

For the match, Warburton tallied a career high 16 kills. With just a single attack error in the match, the outside hitter posted an attack percentage of .333 to lead UWW. Fellow outside hitter Jenna Weinfurt (Waukesha, Wis./Catholic Memorial) matched Warburton's kill output with 16. 

Morgan Jensen (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) put the pressure on from the service line with five aces while registering a match-high 25 digs. Defensively at the net, Kirsten Anderson (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) and Payton Kuepers (Madison, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) posted six block each. 

Aubrie Krzus (Wheaton, Ill./Warrenville South) ran the offense with 45 assists adding a pair of aces and four block assists.
