Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Warhawks Come From Behind to Force Tie on Senior Night

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's soccer team found themselves down early in the second half, but bounced back and scored two goals, forcing the tie in their Senior Day Game against UW-River Falls.

With a play-off spot on the line, the Warhawks and Falcons met up at Fiskum Field on the chilly Saturday. The Warhawks held the ball in their own offensive end most of first half, threatening to score. UW-Whitewater managed two shots on goal, but neither resulted in goals during the first half.

The Falcons chances were limited to just a single shot on goal, but UW-River Falls had three corner opportunities in the first half which the Warhawks thrwated.

During halftime, the team recognized Emma Hager (Arlington Heights, Ill./Hersey), Juliana Madonia (Schaumburg, Ill./James B. Conant), Allie Prigge (Palatine, Ill./Fremd), Emily Thill (West Chicago, Ill./St. Francis), Liz Prigge (Palatine, Ill./Fremd), Nicole Dawson (Aurora, Ill./Metea Valley), Megan Howard (Lakeland, Minn./Stillwater Area), and Margot Yelle (Geneva, Ill./Geneva Community) as the 2023 Senior class.

Out of the break, however, River Falls scored two quick goals within two minutes of each other, giving them a 2-0 lead over the Warhawks.

The Warhawks didn't waste long before closing the lead, with Emily Thill (West Chicago, Ill./St. Francis) and Juliana Madonia (Schaumburg, Ill./James B. Conant) connecting on the Warhawks first goal of the night. Madonia chipped the ball right over the keepers head and kept the Warhawks alive.

After some more back and forth, with UW-Whitewater controlling the ball for most of the time, the offensive pressure finally paid off. Thill placed a throw in that Jordyn Czarapata (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) headed over to Anna Gunderson (Mukwonago, Wis.) who rifled into the open net, tying the game at 2-a piece.

UW-Whitewater kept up the offensive attack, looking for the win, but still were able to hold on to the tie, securing their spot in the WIAC Playoffs.

The Warhawks outshot the Falcons 9 to 3 shots on goal. Emily Thill (West Chicago, Ill./St. Francis) finished the game with two assists with Madonia and Gunderson picking up the two goals for the Warhawks.

Jude Dobrinska (Milwaukee, Wis./Ronald Reagan College Prep) tallied the whole game in net, making one save in her 90 minutes.

The Warhawks return to action on Halloween Night, Tuesday, October 31st. They will play the #3 seed UW-Eau Claire for the first round match-up in the WIAC Tournament.
