Warhawk Women Run Away with Win over Eagles

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater jumped out to a big lead and held it en route to a 66-36 win over UW-La Crosse in Kachel Gymnasium Wednesday night.

The Warhawks set a blistering pace from the opening tip while the defense was stifling over the first ten minutes of play as UWW opened up a 22-6 lead after one quarter. UW-Whitewater maintained its pressure defense throughout the contest, not allowing more than 10 points in a single quarter all night. By the half, UWW had doubled-up the Eagles leading 33-16.

Another big third quarter extended the advantage further. The Warhawks outscored UWL 19-10 in the period to push the gap out to 26, 52-26. The lead never dipped below that mark the rest of the way.

Maggie Trautsch (Sun Prairie, Wis./DeForest) had a phenomenal outing for the Warhawks. Her game-high 25 points were bolstered by a perfect 4-4 night from three-point range. Kacie Carollo (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater) added 14 points including an unblemished, 6-6, performance from the charity stripe. She also led UWW on the glass with eight rebounds while dishing out three assists.

The Warhawk defense did not allow a single Eagle scorer to hit double figures in the game.

At halftime, Warhawk student-athletes who earned All-America honors last winter and spring, as well as this fall were recognized at center court.
