Grundahl Bolsters Warhawk Women in Road Win

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's basketball team picked up a 73-64 win on the road at UW-Stevens Point bolstered by a 24-point performance from Aleah Grundahl (DeForest, Wis./DeForest)

The back-and-forth battle saw the Warhawks capitalizing on the bookends of the contest while the Pointers won the middle quarters. UWW took an early advantage leading by as much as nine in the first quarter before UWSP made a bit of a comeback to cut the margin to 23-17 after one quarter of action. 

The Pointers outscored UW-Whitewater 33-25 in the next two quarters but the Warhawks registered a dominant 25-14 fourth quarter to secure the win.

With the UWW lead cut down to one, 31-30, at halftime, the Pointers hit the first bucket of the third quarter and led the rest of the period. The Warhawks stayed close with a pair of Abi Baumgartner (Mokena, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) free throws with four seconds remaining making it a two-point, 50-48, game heading into the fourth. 

UW-Whitewater scored the first eight points of the fourth to reclaim a six-point advantage, 56-50, less than three minutes into the period. The Warhawks led the rest of the way. 

Grundahl led the charge with 24 points bolstered by a perfect 3-3 from three-point range and 7-10 from the free throw line. Maggie Trautsch (Sun Prairie, Wis./DeForest) knocked down all eight of her shots from the charity stripe on her way to a 15-point performance. Meanwhile, Kacie Carollo (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater)w was a perfect 7-7 from the line to go with 14 points. Each of the three scoring leaders posted seven rebounds combining for seven steals, six assists and three blocks. 

UWW was a phenomenal 26-29 from the free throw line in the game while allowing the Pointers to head to the line just 16 times (10-16).
