The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's basketball team suffered a tough 76-59 loss to UW-River Falls Saturday evening in Kachel Gymnasium.
The Falcons were more efficient outshooting the Warhawks 48-percent (26-54) to 38-percent (19-50). UWRF also registered a 36-22 advantage in points in the paint and a 19-8 sway in second chance points.
The game was a back-and-forth affair through the first four minutes of play. A
Miles Barnstable (Sheboygan, Wis./Howards Grove) three-pointer gave UWW a 5-3 lead but UWRF had the answer with a triple of their own at the 16-minute mark to reclaim the lead. From that point, the Falcon advantage hovered between one and six until a late River Falls run extended the gap to eight with 26 seconds left in the half.
JT Hoytink (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Sussex Hamilton) knocked the margin down to six with a jumper from the elbow at the buzzer to send the Warhawks into the locker room trailing 34-28.
On the other side of the break, the Falcons quickly pushed the lead into double figures where it remained much of the half. A mid-half run for the Warhawks cut the deficit down to seven. The 5-0 run cut the gap to 42-49 with under 10 minutes to go, the closes UWW would be the rest of the way.
Jameer Barker (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) led UWW with 14 points on 5-8 from the floor. He shared team-high honors on the glass with
Elijah Lambert (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) as each player registered five in the game.
Trevon Chislom (McFarland, Wis./McFarland) was a perfect 8-8 at the charity stripe for 11 points adding four blocks and three assists in the contest.
