Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Warhawk Men Push the Pace in Lopsided Win

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's basketball pushed the pace in an 85-65 win at UW-Platteville Wednesday night.

The Warhawks forced 16 Pioneer turnovers and turned the miscues into 22 points while outscoring the host school 17-2 on fastbreak opportunities in the contest.

The first half of the first half was a back-and-forth affair until UWW started to gain some momentum. The Warhawks exploded late in the half after a Trevon Chislom (McFarland, Wis./McFarland) hit a three-pointer with under three minutes to go that sparked a 10-0 run. UW-Platteville hit the final bucket of the half, a triple, with 37 seconds left to make it 40-26.

On the other side of the break, the Pioneers were able to cut the advantage down to nine, 45-36, but Jameer Barker (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) responded with a layup to push the margin back into double digits with 16:12 on the clock. The Warhawk lead never dipped below double figures the rest of the way.

UWW was efficient shooting 55-percent from the floor and a blistering 69-percent (9-13) from three-point range.

Chislom tied for game-high honors with 21 points on 8-13 from the field including 3-4 from deep. He added six rebounds in the game. Miles Barnstable (Sheboygan, Wis./Howards Grove) posted 20 points bolstered by 4-5 from beyond the arc also tallying six boards while adding four assists and four steals. Delvin Barnstable (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan Lutheran) had 14 points and six rebounds as Barker wrapped up the double digit scorers with 13. Barker made it a double-double with 10 assists in the contest.

Heading into the second round through the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, the Warhawks are tied for third in the league with a 4-3 conference record. The cycle starts over with UW-River Falls visiting Kachel Gymnasium Saturday followed by a road trip to La Crosse Wednesday.
