The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's basketball team took built off of an early to capture a lop-sided 87-60 win over UW-Stout in Kachel Gym Saturday evening.
The Blue Devils jumping out to a 9-2 lead over the first three minutes of action, but the Warhawks responded with 12 straight points and never looked back. The halftime lead of 13, 42-39, grew larger throughout the second half en route to the final.
UW-Whitewater used their size and slashing ability to their advantage Saturday, outscoring UW-Stout 52-22 on points in the paint. The one facet the Blue Devils excelled in came from pace as Stout outscored the Warhawks 21-12 on fast break points.
The Warhawks were efficient hitting over 50-percent (32-63) of their shots from the floor while the defense held the Blue Devils to just 34-percent (22-65) from the field. UWW also held a hefty advantage at the free throw line dropping in 20 of their 24 opportunities compared to Stout's 10-14.
The Barnstable duo bolstered the Warhawks' offensive performance.
Delvin Barnstable (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan Lutheran) led UWW with 16 points while
Miles Barnstable (Sheboygan, Wis./Howards Grove) posted 14. The pair combined to go 11-22 from the floor, 2-4 from beyond the arc and were a perfect 6-6 from the charity stripe while adding 12 rebounds, six assists and five steals in the contest.
Jameer Barker (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) added 14 points on 7-8 from the floor while dishing out six assists.
Carter Capstran (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) and
Trevon Chislom (McFarland, Wis./McFarland) each registered 11 points and
Elijah Lambert (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) rounded out the Warhawks' double digit scoring contingent with 10 adding nine rebounds in the outing.
