The No. 13 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's basketball team won their sixth straight game with a 66-56 win over UW-Oshkosh Wednesday night in Kachel Gym.
The Warhawks had a great first half to build a 20-point cushion by the break. The Titans won the second half but UWW held on for the win.
UW-Oshkosh jumped out to a 7-2 lead to open the game. UWW came flying back scoring 16 of the next 20 points to wrap up the first quarter with an 18-11 lead.
The second quarter was all UW-Whitewater. The Warhawks held the Titans to a single field goal and a shooting percentage of just eight-percent in the period. Outscoring UWO 20-7 in the period, the Warhawks took a 38-18 lead into the locker rooms.
Aleah Grundahl (DeForest, Wis./DeForest) had 11 points on 5-8 from the floor in the first 20 minutes of action to lead all players.
Kacie Carollo (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater) was a single point away from a double-double with nine points and ten boards with an entire half to go.
UWW held their double digit lead until the final 30 seconds of the game when the Titans were able to cut the advantage to eight. A pair of
Maggie Trautsch (Sun Prairie, Wis./DeForest) free throws with 18 seconds left pushed the lead back to ten for the final.
Carollo led all players with 18 points bolstered by 3-6 from three-point range. She ended up with 15 rebounds adding four assists, three steals and a pair of blocks. Grundahl added 15 points and three assists while
Abby Belschner (Grafton, Wis./Cedarburg) dropped in 14 points. Trautsch wrapped up the double digit scorers for the Warhawks with 11.
