Warhawk Men Win Fifth Consecutive Hawk Cup

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's soccer team defeated Loras College 3-1 to maintain possession of the Hawk Cup for the fifth consecutive season.

The Warhawks opened the scoring in the 26th minute on a goal off of a corner kick. Evan Donini (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West) elevated in the box to connect with Nolan Ehlers' (Grayslake, Ill./Warren Township) driving cross in from the corner. The Duhawk keeper dove and got his outstretched hand on the ball, but Donini's powerful header made it through into the lower right side of the net for a 1-0 lead.
Less than five minutes later, Loras was pressing forward when a pass was blocked and redirected away from the UW-W keeper that was moving right. Taylor Sowell was the first to reach the ball and finish off the play for the Duhawks to tally the equalizer.

On the other side of the break, Jalen Holley (Milwaukee, Wis./Wauwatosa East) and Jacob Mouille (Waunakee, Wis./Waunakee) teamed up for the Warhawks' second goal of the contest in the 56th minute, and what a goal it was. A long pass from the defensive side of midfield set up Holley to press forward. He settled the ball and had a perfect touch with a burst of speed to get by the Loras defenders on the right side of the box. Surveying the field, he used his right to find Mouille in the middle of the box with a waist high pass. Mouille booted the ball down perfectly with his right, took one step and fired a high shot in stride that hit the back of the net for a 2-1 lead.

Holley put the finishing touches on the contest with another score in the 89th minute, capitalizing after the Duhawk keeper came out way off of his line.

Matthew Vollmer (Lake Zurich, Ill./Lake Zurich) got the start for the Warhawks in net and made two saves in 90 minutes of action.
