The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's tennis team defeated Cardinal Stritch University 5-2 in a match played in Lake Geneva due to poor weather conditions Sunday. Doubles counted as a single point in the match.
UW-Whitewater swept doubles competition to earn the first point of the match.
Autumn Bruno (Milwaukee, Wis./Greenfield Whitnall) and
Cassie Lee (Downers Grove, Ill./Timothy Christian) defeated Emerson Banning and Cristina Korakopoulou 7-5 and No.1. At No. 2, the Warhawk duo of
Kellie Ha (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) and
Kasey Schlicht (Pewaukee, Wis./Pewaukee) topped Kissmel Cedano and Ana Alvarez 6-2.
Gianna Nikoleit (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community) and
Courtney Day (Oshkosh, Wis./North) combined to defeate Marta Garcia and Aspasia Katsouda 6-4 at No. 3 doubles.
Nikoleit also took No. 1 singles 3-6, 6-3, 10-7 while Lee had the quickest singles match, 6-1, 6-1 to win No. 3. Ha took No. 5 singles 6-3, 6-2 and
Bethany Marshall (Cary, Ill./Cary-Grove) registered the fourth singles victory, 6-3, 1-6, 10-8 at No. 6.
Schlict fell at No. 4 singles 6-7 (4-7), 7-5, 10-6 and Bruno dropped No. 2 singles 6-3, 0-6, 10-7 in the final two singles matches on the day.
