The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater finished 13th out of 450 institutions in the 2021-22 National Association of College Directors of Athletics' Learfield IMG College Directors' Cup Division III standings.

Warhawk teams totaled 754.25 points to place among the nation's top 20 for the 13th consecutive season and among the top 15 for the 12th time during the same span. UW-W was the top finisher among Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference institutions.

UW-Whitewater scored 208 in the fall, 239.75 in the winter and 306.5 in the spring.

Two programs led the Warhawks with 64 points apiece during a highly successful spring season. The baseball team won the NCAA Whitewater Regional and reached the Super Regional round for a top 16 finish, while the men's tennis team earned a spot in the NCAA Round of 16, where they were edged 5-3 against eventual national runner-up Case Western Reserve.

The men's track and field team tallied 58.5 points thanks to a 16th-place finish at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. The women's tennis team reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament to post 50 points, while the women's track and field team, behind a national runner-up finish from Gracie Holland (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield), registered 36 points. The golf team placed 20th at the NCAA Championship to add 34 points to the total.

The women's basketball team's run to the national championship game highlighted the winter season and added 90 points to UW-W's total. The men's track and field team tallied 66.75 points with its tie for 10th place at the NCAA Indoor Championships, and the wrestling team contributed 56.5 points to the total by tying for 17th at the NCAA Championship behind a national championship by Jaritt Shinhoster (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Barrington). The women's track and field team collected 26.5 points with its 46th-place finish at the national indoor meet.

UW-Whitewater earned 83 points for its football national semifinal appearance, 75 for the men's cross country team's fifth-place showing at the NCAA Championship and 50 for the volleyball team's NCAA Tournament second round bid.

The Directors' Cup measures the overall athletic success of collegiate institutions. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 18 NCAA sports – nine women's and nine men's. Men's and women's basketball and men's and women's soccer must be counted among the total.

The Directors' Cup did not take place during the 2019-20 and 2020-21 years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2018-19, UW-W finished 15th out of 450 institutions with a total of 593.50 points for the university's 12th consecutive top 20 finish and 11th time among the top 15 in the last 12 years.

In 2013-14, UW-Whitewater finished second in the Directors' Cup standings, the school's all-time best finish.
