The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater softball team finished its annual spring break trip to the NTC Spring Games Thursday with a 5-1 win in six innings against Williams (Mass.) at the National Training Center Softball Complex in Clermont, Fla.
The Warhawks (6-5 overall) led 5-1 with one out in the bottom of the sixth when the game was called due to inclement weather. By NCAA rule, the game is official since it was through at least five innings.
Krista Sbarra (West Chicago, Ill./St. Charles East) tallied two hits and two runs scored and designated player
Sydney Anderson (Delavan, Wis./Delavan-Darien) collected two hits and two runs batted in. Second baseman
Delaney Becker (Tinley Park, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) knocked in two runs and third baseman
Grace Wickman (Wausaukee, Wis./Peshtigo) registered one hit, one run scored and one RBI.
Mallory Hollatz (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) pitched all six innings to improve to 4-2 on the year. She scattered seven hits and stranded six runners, including two each in the second and fourth innings.
UW-Whitewater struck for two runs in the bottom of the first on Becker's two-out, two-run double to left center.
The Ephs (4-3) responded with one run in the top of the third before the Warhawks answered back with three runs in the bottom of the fourth, when Wickman knocked a run-scoring double to left center and Anderson sent a two-out, two-run single back up the middle.
UW-Whitewater, which closed its trip to Florida with three straight wins, hosts Lake Forest (Ill.) this Tuesday at 2 p.m. at van Steenderen Softball Complex.
