No. 12 Baseball Wins Another in Florida

The No. 12 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater baseball team extended its winning streak to six games Tuesday with a 5-3 triumph against Grinnell (Iowa) at Studer's Blue Wahoos Challenge at Blue Wahoos Stadium in Pensacola, Fla.

The Warhawks (7-2 overall) took the lead with a three-run seventh inning and retired the Pioneers' final six hitters to hold the advantage.

Kade Lancour (Nekoosa, Wis./Nekoosa) improved to 3-0 with an eight-inning, 10-strikeout performance without issuing a walk. Sam Vomhof (DeForest, Wis./DeForest) struck out the side in the ninth inning for his first save of the year.

Vomhof also starred at the plate, totaling two hits and two runs batted in. Catcher Ryan Norton (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac) and third baseman Matt Korman (Waterford, Wis./Waterford Union) posted one hit and one RBI apiece, and Norton added one walk.

Vomhof plated right fielder Jacob DeMeyer (Harshaw, Wis./Rhinelander) in the first inning to give UW-Whitewater the early lead.

Grinnell (2-5) tallied once in the second and twice in the third to take a 3-1 advantage.

The Warhawks cut into the deficit in the sixth thanks to Korman's two-out, run-scoring single. UW-W took the lead for good on an error, Vomhof's groundout and Norton's two-out, RBI base hit.

Lancour, who stranded only one runner in his final five innings of work, recorded a 1-2-3 eighth inning before giving way to Vomhof in the ninth.

UW-Whitewater takes on Division II West Florida Wednesday at 6 p.m. inside Blue Wahoos Stadium.
