The No. 14 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater baseball team began its seven-day trip to Pensacola, Fla., Wednesday night with a 5-0 victory against Rhodes (Tenn.) at Blue Wahoos Stadium.
The Warhawks (3-2 overall) scored four runs in the fourth inning and limited the Linx (9-9-1) to three hits on the day.
Westin Muir (Highlands Ranch, Colo./St. Charles North (Ill.)) tossed seven shutout innings for his first win of the year. He posted six strikeouts and allowed two hits and one walk in his performance.
Cade Berendt (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) and
Cam Anfang (Sullivan, Wis./Jefferson) each pitched one shutout inning of relief.
First baseman
Nick Paget (New Berlin, Wis./West) led UW-Whitewater with two hits, one run score and one run batted in. Left fielder Mat Scolan reached base three times with one hit and two walks and added one RBI.
Zach Campbell (Burlington, Wis./Burlington) gave UW-W the lead for good with a two-run single with nobody out in the bottom of the fourth. Second baseman
Bennett Frazer (Hobart, Wis./Oconto) and Scolan each knocked in one run with a bases-loaded walk.
Paget capped the scoring for the Warhawks with a two-out, run-scoring base hit up the middle.
UW-Whitewater hosts Rhodes again Thursday starting at 10 a.m.
