Huge First Quarter Leads to Warhawk Win

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's basketball team came out on fire posting a huge, 31-point first quarter leading to a 92-64 win over Augustana College (IL) Wednesday night in Kachel Gymnasium.

The Warhawks scored at a blistering pace with a near-perfect first 10 minutes of play. UWW shot 73-percent (11-15) from the floor including an incredible 88-percent (7-8) from three-point range. Five Warhawks hit from beyond the arc in the first quarter led by a phenomenal quarter by guard Kacie Carollo (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater) who hit 4-5 from the floor and 3-4 from long range for 11 points in eight minutes of action. UW-Whitewater's defense held the Vikings to just 24-percent (4-17) from the floor leading to a hefty Warhawk advantage, 31-13, heading into the second.

Although the offensive efficiency dropped in the second quarter, UWW still outscored Augustana 21-10 to take a 52-23 lead into the break. In the first 20 minutes of action, nine Warhawks had entered the scoring column led by Carollo's 14 and nine from Mallory Oloffson (Normal, Ill./Normal Community)

The fantastic first half was all UW-Whitewater would need as the lead hovered around 30 points the rest of the way.

For the game, the Warhawks shot 54-percent (30-56) from the floor and 55-percent (12-22) from deep. UWW also hit 20 of 26 from the free throw line. Carollo ended up with a game-high 21 bolstered by 5-6 from downtown. Maggie Trautsch (Sun Prairie, Wis./DeForest) poasted 14 followed by Oloffson with 12 and Yssa Sto.
