The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's basketball team fell to the University of Chicago 63-58 in a top 25 battle on the road Wednesday evening.

The No. 13 Warhawks took an early lead in the contest outscoring the unbeaten Maroons 16-9 in the first quarter. UWW shot 50-percent from the floor and 60-percent (3-5) from three-point range to take the early lead. The defense held the No. 21 Maroons to just 33-percent from the floor and 0-4 from long range.

Chicago narrowed the gap by one in the second quarter to head into the intermission with UW-Whitewater enjoying a 28-22 advantage.

On the other side of the break, the Warhawks continued to top their competition in offensive efficiency widening the gap to 10, 45-35, heading into the final period of play.

Lunden Alexander (Dolton, Ill./Thornwood) responded to a Maroon jumper with a three to push the lead to 11 less than two minutes into the fourth. She hit a layup to halt a short UC run at the seven-minute mark that made it 50-41. From there, Chicago went on a 20-5 run over the next 6:42 to take a 61-55 lead with just 20 seconds remaining.

Kacie Carollo (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater) hit a triple with 15 seconds to go to cut the deficit to three but the Maroons sealed the game at the free throw line.

Chicago capitalized on Warhawk miscues with a 21-14 sway in points off turnovers.

Alexander had a fantastic outing for the Warhawks hitting 6-7 from the floor including a perfect 3-3 from deep for a team-high 15 points. Carollo added 13 and
Yssa Sto. Domingo (Streamwood, Ill./St. Edward) dropped in 10 while leading UWW with seven rebounds.
Aleah Grundahl (DeForest, Wis./DeForest) dished out five assists, adding a steal and blocked shot in the game.
