A late game push helped the Warhawks overcome the Falcons for their first conference win of the season. The Warhawks finished out the game on a 23-9 run to pull off the win.
The first half started off with a quick Falcon run, as the Warhawks fell behind by nine (18-9). Keeping up the pressure, River Falls extended their lead to 11, but the Warhawks reduced it down to one off a Miles Barnstable (Sheboygan, Wis./Howards Grove) three. A quick jumper for the Falcons finished the first half with River Falls up 37-34.
After the break, Whitewater quickly took back the lead, extending it up to nine. The Falcons managed to close the lead down, but each time they did, Whitewater extended it back up. The last couple minutes saw the Warhawks outscore the Falcons 23-9 to secure the 15 point win.
Miles Barnstable (Sheboygan, Wis./Howards Grove) and Delvin Barnstable (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan Lutheran) led the scoring for the Warhawks, Miles finished with 22 points while Delvin chipped in 18 of his own. JT Hoytink (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Sussex Hamilton) and Cliff McCray (Madison, Wis./West) offered some good support coming off the bench, Hoytink finished with 10 points and MCCray played some strong defense, recording four steals.
The Falcons had three players in double digit scoring with Rodrick Payne (15), Garrett Honstrom (14), and Logan Jedwabny (12).
The Warhawks shot 43-percent from the floor (23 for 53) and 37-percent from deep (9 for 26). The Warhawks shot an impressive 80-percent from the free throw line (20-25).
On the other end, the Warhawks held River Falls to 39-percent from the floor (20 for 52) and 23-percent from deep (5 for 22)
The men's basketball team will be back home on Tuesday, December 6th to take on Lake Forest College. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
