The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's soccer team fell to UW-Eau Claire 1-0 in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference semifinal played at Fiskum Field Thursday evening.
The Warhawks, the number two seed entering the tournament, received a bye through the quarterfinal round and earned hosting rights after wrapping up conference play with a 4-2-1 mark.
UWW had the advantage in shots through the first 45 minutes 6-1 over the Blugolds. The Warhawks also held a 6-1 sway in corner kicks in the first half but were unable to find the back of the net.
In the 78th minute, UWEC was awarded a corner and sent a long ball toward the back post that was headed back across goal. A flurry of action in front of the net saw the ball sneak through the Warhawk defense for the lone goal of the contest.
UW-Whitewater, 11-5-4 on the season, will await a possible at-large bid into the NCAA Division III Championship. The selection show is scheduled for Monday.
