GAME TIME
The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater football team heads to Menomonie, Wisconsin to take on the UW-Stout Blue Devils at Williams Stadium this Saturday. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
The Warhawks defeated UW-River Falls in dramatic fashion last Saturday. In a tale of two halves, UWW dominated the first and UWRF the second with the game coming down to the final play in regulation, a career-long 49-yard field goal attempt for the Warhawk kicker. Jeffery Isotalo-McGuire's (Phoenix, Ariz./Pinnacle) boot was high and centered coming down on top of the crossbar and bouncing through as time expired for the 30-27 victory in the top-25 matchup. Â
The Warhawks threw for 206 yards and a touchdown and posted 217 yards with a pair of scoring TDs on the ground. UWW's defense was stifling in the ground game, allowed just 35 yards for the Falcons. The Warhawks dominated time of possession by over 10 minutes in the contest.
UW-Stout also won a thriller last Saturday capturing the 'W' in triple overtime against UW-Platteville. The Blue Devils hit an 18-yard field goal with just over a minute remaining to knot the game 16-16. The squads traded field goals in the first overtime, and once again in the second OT period. With the ball placed at the three-yard line in the third OT, each team has one play to essentially make a two-point conversion. The Pioneers pass attempt failed. John Smozynski's pass attempt for UWS was successful for the 24-22 win.
The Blue Devils registered just a single net yard on the ground last week while giving up 124. However, UWS was dominant through the air with 318 yards and a passing touchdown. The kicking game was perfect for the Blue Devils going 5-5 for field goals in the contest.
UW-Whitewater, ranked tenth, held its spot in the latest d3football.com top 25 poll this week. The Warhawks moved up a spot in the AFCA Coaches Poll to 13th this week. UW-Stout is unranked nationally.
