The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater wrestling team competed in the Concordia Wisconsin Open Saturday. 

Dakarai Clay (Madison, Wis./Madison East) led UWW at 141 pounds. Clay followed up a 6-1 decision in his opener with back-to-back pins. His first was a 5:52 fall of Conor Smetana (North Central) and his second came in 4:24 over Evan Burge (Wabash). He fell to the eventual 141-pound champion from Wartburg 12-7, but bounced back to defeat Burge a second time, this bout an exciting 10-9 decision, to finish third. 

Jake Burford (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) opened his day at 149 pounds with two consecutive pins. He topped a UW-La Crosse wrestler by 8-5 decision and then Wartburg's Kyler Romero 5-4 to advance to the final. He fell in that title bout to finish as the runner-up. 

At 165 pounds, Ryan Vedner (Arlington Heights, Ill./Prospect) followed up a 10-5 decision with a 16-3 major over Wabash's Jesse Herrera. He advanced to the semifinal with a 6-4 decision over Kaleb O'Reilley of UWL where he narrowly fell to eventual champion Nathan Fuller of Wartburg 3-2. Vedner responded with a 3-2 decision in the third-place bout to take bronze. 

Jaritt Shinhoster (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Barrington) cruised through the 184 pound weight class into the finals. He registered three consecutive falls followed by a 16-0 technical fall in over UW-Stevens Point's Trystan Altensey in the semifinal. He finished as the runner-up in the weight class in a sudden victory defeat. 

At 133 pounds, Justin Fortugno (Armonk, N.Y./Byram Hills) bounced back from an opening loss to roll through the consolation bracket. Fortugno posted a major decision and a pin over Concordia's Gabe Rodriguez on his way to the consolation title.
