The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater football team heads to Platteville, Wisconsin for the 27th edition of the George Chryst Memorial Bowl against the Pioneers. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. Saturday at Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.
The Warhawks maintained their unblemished record in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with a 17-3 win over a ranked UW-Oshkosh squad under the lights at Perkins Stadium last Friday. The UW-Whitewater win came in front of a record crowd of 18,951 -- a new WIAC record, Perkins Stadium record and record for a Division III game played on one of the competing team's campuses. The Warhawks dominated in the ground game with 165 yards and a pair of rushing touchdowns. Defensively, UW-W held the Titans to under 90 yards on the ground, registered an interception and recovered a fumble in the contest leading to the win. Â
UW-Platteville topped a top-25 UW-River Falls program 21-14 in Platteville. The Pioneers used a 14-point second quarter to take the lead and added a touchdown in the third for a cushion. The Pioneers posted nearly 50-yards less offense, but a timely big pass play led to the first score and an interception setup the second touchdown. UW-P put together a long drive for their third score while the defense held the Falcons to scores on the bookends for the 21-14 final.
UW-Whitewater is ranked third in both the d3football.com and American Football Coaches Association national polls this week. The Pioneers are receiving votes in the latest d3football.com poll and are not listed in the latest release of the AFCA poll.
