Men’s Track and Field Impresses at “Squig” Converse Invite

The No. 11 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's track and field team hosted the "Squig" Converse Invitational on Friday at Kachel Fieldhouse.
 
Through 15 scored events, the Warhawks were in third place with 96.5 team points, trailing UW-Oshkosh and UW-La Crosse.
 
David Fassbender (Slinger, Wis./Slinger) and Landon Keefover (Antioch, Ill./Antioch) led UW-Whitewater by winning their respective events. Keefover crossed the finish line first in the 60-meter hurdles in a season-best time of 8.34 seconds. Making his indoor season debut, Fassbender took the 3,000-meter run in a time of 8:17.42, which broke an eight-year-old facility record and is among the top 10 in the nation. Gunner Schlender (Brillion, Wis./Brillion) finished close behind with a time of 8:20.77, good for second place out of 61 competitors.
 
Justin Krause (Ixonia, Wis./Pewaukee) placed second in the 800-meter run with a result of 1:55.22, less than three-tenths of a second off the winning pace. Curtis Pfeil (West Bend, Wis./West) finished as the runner-up in both the long jump and the triple jump. He posted a distance of 23-07.25 (7.19 meters) in the long jump and a 47-01.50 (14.36 meters) in the triple.
 
Daustin Martin (Jefferson, Wis./Jefferson) finished third in the weight throw with his season-high distance of 56-07.50 (17.26 meters). Victor Rinaldi (Medford, Wis./Medford) registered a personal record for the second straight meet and placed fifth in the 60-meter dash in 6.91 seconds, and Luke Zanis (St. Charles, Ill./North) completed the 400-meter dash in 51.04 seconds, good for fourth place.
 
Chris Bitz (Brookfield, Wis./East) placed fourth in the pole vault with a height of 14-09.00 (4.50 meters). Jack McGinn (Madison, Wis./McFarland) recorded his personal record in the heptathlon with a score of 4,065, good for fourth place.
 
The Warhawks head to UW-Stevens Point's Big Dawg Invite next Saturday, Feb. 5, at 10:30 a.m.
