Men’s Basketball This Week Presented by Fairfield Inn & Suites Whitewater (Jan. 24-30)

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's basketball team looks to get back on the winning track this week as it visits UW-Stevens Point for a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game this Wednesday at 7 p.m.
 
The Warhawks (11-7 overall, 4-3 WIAC) are not slated to play this Saturday, which is the first of two bye dates in the conference schedule.
 
Wednesday's game can be heard live on KIX 106.5 FM WKCH in the Whitewater area or live online at kix1065.com and can be viewed online via the Pointers' YouTube channel.
 
On Saturday, the Warhawks fell behind by double digits early in the second half and were unable to forge a comeback in a 74-63 setback against UW-Eau Claire on Alumni Day at Kachel Gymnasium. Carter Capstran (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) tallied a career-high 22 points to go with a team-best six rebounds to lead UW-W, which couldn't overcome 54.2 percent shooting by the Blugolds, including 58.3 percent in the second half.
 
Earlier in the week, UW-Whitewater fell behind 45-27 by halftime and got as close as 14 points in the second half during a 79-61 loss against No. 10 UW-La Crosse. Derek Gray (Madison, Wis./La Follette) tallied 19 points, including 14 in the second half, while Capstran registered 10 points. Jameer Barker (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) finished with eight points, and Trevon Chislom (McFarland, Wis./McFarland) added seven points.
 
Wednesday, Jan. 26, 7 p.m. – at UW-Stevens Point (Radio: KIX 106.5 FM WKCH)
 
UW-Stevens Point (3-10, 0-6) begins the week with eight straight losses, including a 64-44 defeat at No. 10 UW-La Crosse on Saturday. The Pointers were limited to 30.9 percent shooting from the floor while the Eagles converted 52 percent from the field on the other end.
 
Garrett Nelson leads UW-Stevens Point in scoring, averaging 16.2 points per game. He also leads the team in assists (38) and steals (21). Jake Buchanan, who joined UW-SP in January, is averaging 10.0 points per contest, and Zach Mootz enters the week with 8.5 points per outing.
 
The Warhawks shot 63.3 percent (19-of-30) in the second half to close out an 83-70 victory against the Pointers on Dec. 1 in Whitewater. Derek Gray (Madison, Wis./La Follette) tallied a game-high 19 points to lead UW-W, which outrebounded UW-Stevens Point by a 44-25 margin. Gage Malensek (Brookfield, Wis./Central) finished with 11 points, and Barker collected 11 points, seven rebounds and four assists in the win.
 
UW-Stevens Point leads the all-time series between the two teams, 106-87.
