Women’s Soccer Drops Road Game

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's soccer team came up just short in its pursuit of a two-match sweep in Minnesota Sunday afternoon, falling 1-0 at St. Benedict in a non-conference contest.

The Warhawks (1-1 overall) finished with a 10-8 advantage in shots and a 4-3 edge in corner kicks, but were unable to convert their opportunities.

The Bennies (2-1) found the back of the net in the 27th minute and held the lead.

Olivia May (Elkhorn, Wis./Elkhorn Area) took UW-Whitewater's first shot on goal in the fourth minute, but the shot to the lower right was saved. UW-W had a pair of corner kicks in a seven-minute span near the end of the half, but St. Benedict held its one-goal lead.

In the second half, two minutes after a Warhawk corner kick, Katie Swenson (Wauwatosa, Wis./East) put another shot on net in the 64th minute. From there, the team took one more shot and one more corner kick, and was unable to find an equalizer.

Leah Eisenbarth (Lake Barrington, Ill./Barrington) played all 90 minutes in goal for the Warhawks, tallying four saves.

UW-Whitewater returns to action Tuesday at Ripon. Kickoff is slated for 4:30 p.m.
