The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater football team concludes non-conference play Saturday by hosting Berry, a member of the Southern Athletic Association, at 12 p.m. Central Time at Perkins Stadium.
The Warhawks improved to 2-0 for the season last Saturday with a 31-14 victory at No. 8 Salisbury (Md.). UW-Whitewater tallied 17 unanswered points in the second half to break open a one-possession game and held the ball for more than 33 minutes in the contest. The defense held the Sea Gulls' triple option attack to 122 yards, one week after Salisbury piled up more than 500 yards on the ground.
The Warhawks moved up one spot to No. 2 in the latest D3football.com Top 25. UW-W earned 577 points vote from pollsters without receiving a first-place vote. The team was ranked second in the Lindy's Sports Preseason Division III Top 25 and fourth by College Football America.
Berry, the five-time defending SAA champion, is predicted to finish second in the conference by the league's coaches in 2021, and is ranked 25th in the latest D3football.com Top 25. The Vikings, who reached the NCAA Playoffs in 2019, topped LaGrange 34-21 last Saturday in their first road game of the year. Berry recorded 301 rushing yards while holding the Panthers to 57 yards on the ground, and held the ball for more than 36 minutes of the game. The Vikings led 31-0 at halftime and 34-7 early in the fourth quarter.
