Box Score 2 The No. 19 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater volleyball team posted a pair of non-conference victories Saturday at the Carthage College Invitational in Kenosha.
The Warhawks (5-0 overall) remained unbeaten for the 2021 season thanks to a 25-21, 25-18, 21-25, 25-9 triumph against Bethel (Minn.) and a 25-19, 25-16, 25-11 victory against fifth-ranked Carthage to close the day.
Following the conclusion of the tournament,
Morgan Wardall (Merrill, Wis./Merrill),
Morgan Jensen (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) and
Jenna Weinfurt (Waukesha, Wis./Catholic Memorial) were named to the All-Tournament Team.
Against Carthage (6-3), UW-Whitewater finished with a season-best .394 hitting percentage, going over .460 in each of its final two sets.
The Warhawks jumped out to big leads in all three sets, including an 11-5 margin in the first set, an 11-6 advantage in the second and a 12-3 lead in the third.
Emma Aske (Aurora, Ill./Metea Valley) recorded a team-best 13 kills and a .522 hitting percentage to go with five digs. Weinfurt and
Baylie Hansen (Bonduel, Wis./Shawano) collected eight kills apiece, while
Erin McNeil (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) finished with seven kills.
Wardall registered six kills and three blocks, and
Kirsten Anderson (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) contributed six kills and three blocks.
KellyAnn Sotiros (New Berlin, Wis./West Allis Hale) tallied 20 assists and four digs, and
Paige Manssen (Bull Valley, Ill./McHenry West) totaled 16 assists and two service aces.
Jensen led the defense with 19 digs and added three assists and two service aces.
Hailey Mackenthun (Webster, Minn./Northfield) was also in double figures in digs with 11.
Stats for the match against Bethel (7-2) are not yet available.
UW-Whitewater opens Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play this Wednesday against UW-Oshkosh. First serve inside Russell Arena is slated for 7 p.m.
