The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's soccer team concluded its 2021 season Tuesday night with a 1-0 setback against UW-Eau Claire in the first round of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament (presented by Culver's) at Fiskum Field.
The Warhawks (13-7 overall) tied for third in the WIAC standings during the regular season, the program's 10th top-three finish in the last 11 years. UW-W was the No. 4 seed in the conference tournament.
Fifth-seeded UW-Eau Claire (9-8-2), which advances to play UW-Oshkosh in Thursday's semifinals, found a goal in the 84th minute to take the lead in an evenly-played match.
UW-Whitewater's
Margot Yelle (Geneva, Ill./Geneva Community) put the first shot on goal of the contest in the 12th minute. The Blugolds put two shots on the 16th and 17th minutes.
UW-Eau Claire challenged Warhawk goalkeeper
Lilly Horne (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore) again in the 25th minute, and the Warhawks responded in the 27th with their own shot on goal.
Neither team tallied a shot in the remainder of the first half.
Anna Brodjian (Barrington, Ill./Barrington), who finished with four shots, including two on goal, posted a shot on goal just under five minutes into the second half. The Blugolds were off target on their next two shots, and Brodjian put another shot on frame in the 78th minute, the last shot of the match for UW-W.
UW-Eau Claire earned a corner kick in the 83rd minute, just over 30 seconds before netting the game-winner.
