The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater football team plays its final game of the regular season this Saturday as it visits UW-Stevens Point for a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest at Goerke Park in Stevens Point.

The Warhawks took a 13-0 advantage and hung on late last Saturday for a 13-7 victory against No. 12 UW-La Crosse, clinching at least a share of the WIAC championship and locking up the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Playoffs. UW-W held a 187-79 advantage in rushing yards and stopped the Eagles from scoring twice in the red zone, including once at the 1-yard line and again on the final drive of the contest.

The Warhawks remained at No. 3 in the latest D3football.com Top 25, earning 579 points from pollsters without receiving a first-place vote. UW-W is also third in the latest American Football Coaches Association Division III Coaches' Poll, picking up 1,076 points and one first-place vote from panelists. The team was ranked second in the Lindy's Sports Preseason Division III Top 25 and fourth in the preseason by College Football America.

UW-Stevens Point took a 3-0 lead in the first quarter before UW-Oshkosh tallied 49 unanswered points last Saturday in a 49-17 setback in Oshkosh. The Pointers held the ball for nearly 34 minutes and finished with more first downs (21) than the Titans (20), but committed three turnovers and were limited to 4.3 yards per play. Max Herro led the offense with two touchdown passes, and Kameron Kryzanski paced the defense with nine tackles.

Saturday's game will be shown live on the UW-Stevens Point Athletics YouTube page. The contest can also be heard on KIX 106.5 FM WKCH in the Whitewater area, or online at kix1065.com.

SERIES

The Warhawks lead the all-time series against UW-Stevens Point, 68-31, and have won the last seven games in the series dating back to 2013. On Oct. 19, 2019, UW-Whitewater tallied 24 second-half points to break open a two-possession game on its way to a 38-0 victory. Alex Peete (Ringwood, Ill./Johnsburg) rushed for 114 yards and three touchdowns to lead the offense, which averaged six yards per play. Jacob Erbs posted seven tackles, including one for a loss, and stripped and recovered a fumble for a 46-yard touchdown to lead the defense, which totaled four sacks in the shutout.

NOTABLE

UW-Whitewater is playing Saturday for its fifth undefeated regular season in the last nine years. The Warhawks would claim the WIAC championship outright with a victory after already clinching the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Playoffs.
