The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater football team returns home Saturday after a two-game road swing to face Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foe UW-Eau Claire at 1 p.m. at Perkins Stadium. Saturday's game is Homecoming and Hall of Fame Day.
The Warhawks broke a 28-28 tie with a field goal at the 2:58 mark of the fourth quarter and added three more points on a field goal just over one minute later on their way to a 34-28 victory at UW-River Falls last Saturday. UW-Whitewater held the ball for more than 32 minutes and forced four turnovers, including a fumble on the kickoff return after it had taken its three-point lead and an interception on the Falcons' final drive of the game.
The Warhawks remained at No. 3 in the latest D3football.com Top 25, earning 573 points from pollsters without receiving a first-place vote. UW-W is also third in the latest American Football Coaches Association Division III Coaches' Poll, picking up 1,063 points from panelists. The team was ranked second in the Lindy's Sports Preseason Division III Top 25 and fourth by College Football America.
UW-Eau Claire trailed 34-0 after one quarter and was unable to dig out of the deficit last Saturday in a 54-31 loss at nationally-ranked UW-Oshkosh. The Blugolds held the ball for more than 40 minutes in the game and finished with more first downs than the Titans (27-18), but committed four turnovers and allowed more than 11 yards per play. Austin Belot rushed for 121 yards and one touchdown, and Isaac Garside caught seven passes for 88 yards and one score.
