No. 10 Volleyball Picks Up WIAC Victory

The No. 10 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater volleyball team never trailed at any point in its match Friday night, defeating UW-River Falls 25-9, 25-8, 25-19 in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest at Russell Arena.
 
The Warhawks (13-1 overall, 2-1 WIAC) hit .387 offensively while holding the Falcons to .011. UW-W committed only two attack errors over the first two sets.
 
Erin McNeil (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) posted a match-high 15 kills on a .591 hitting percentage. Jenna Weinfurt (Waukesha, Wis./Catholic Memorial) collected 10 kills on a .389 hitting percentage and added five digs, while Kirsten Anderson (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) registered eight kills, three digs and one block.
 
KellyAnn Sotiros (New Berlin, Wis./West Allis Hale) finished with a double-double, contributing 23 assists and 12 digs to go along with a team-best three service aces. Paige Manssen (Bull Valley, Ill./McHenry West) tallied nine assists and four digs.
 
Morgan Jensen (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) led the defense with 18 digs to go along with nine assists and two service aces.
 
With the first set tied at 6-6, UW-Whitewater ran off four straight points on Manssen's serve, and took advantage of a 5-0 run on Jensen's serve for a 16-8 lead. Sotiros served out the set starting at 17-9 with a run that included two kills apiece from McNeil and Weinfurt.
 
The Warhawks surged to a 9-3 lead in the second set and, from there, never led by fewer than five points. Sotiros served UW-W to an 18-7 advantage, and Anderson served out the set with seven consecutive points.
 
UW-River Falls (8-10, 0-3) drew to within 21-18 late in the third set, but UW-Whitewater closed the match on a 4-1 run, including back-to-back kills by Weinfurt to conclude the set.
 
The Warhawks host Grinnell (Iowa) Saturday at 12 p.m. for a non-conference match inside Russell Arena.
