Perkins Stadium information/history
The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Department of Intercollegiate Athletics recognizes Perkins Stadium for its 50 years as a staple of the UW-Whitewater campus and Whitewater community, and as one of the top venues in all of NCAA Division III.
Perkins Stadium, the home of Warhawk Football, annually hosts numerous campus and community events, including high school football games, intramurals, band concerts and camps and clinics.
Over the coming months, UW-Whitewater Athletics will highlight some of the best football games played inside the stadium.
We encourage all student-athletes, faculty and staff, alumni and fans to share their favorite memories at Perkins Stadium
here. We'll highlight these memories on
uwwsports.com and on our social media channels.
Warhawk Stadium broke ground in 1963 and hosted its first game in 1970 under head coach Forrest Perkins (1956-84), whose vision was critical to the stadium project. Its original capacity of 11,000 spectators was far more than the facilities at peer institutions.
The stadium was renamed for Coach Perkins in 1996, and in 2003, the Student Athletic Complex opened under the name of former coach Bob Berezowitz (1985-2006). The SAC, located on the south end of Perkins Stadium, contains coaches offices, meeting rooms and classrooms, and houses the Warhawks' six national championship trophies.
Numerous updates were made in 2008, including updated landscaping and branding, a press box suited to host fans, media and gameday personnel, the installation of FieldTurf as the playing surface, a Daktronics video board and updated seating for both home and visiting fans to increase the spectator capacity to 13,500.
In 2018, the stadium's locker room facility and sports medicine room were expanded, upgraded and rebranded.
