The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's basketball team fell behind in the first and were unable to recover on Wednesday night in an 86-65 loss to UW-Oshkosh in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest.
The Warhawks (7-17 overall, 2-11 WIAC) earned 14 of their points off of turnovers to stay competitive in the game. But the Titans (16-8, 10-3) were able to hit more shots with their 51.8 shooting percentage.
Junior
Equan Ards (Milwaukee, Wis./Hamilton) registered 25 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals to lead UW-Whitewater. Sophomore forward
Breontae Hunt (Milwaukee, Wis./Bay View) tallied a team-high six rebounds, freshman forward
Trevon Chislom (McFarland, Wis./McFarland) totaled 11 points and sophomore center
David Grintjes (West Bend, Wis./West) registered seven points.
Nine of the Warhawks first ten points came from 3-pointers, with one from Ards and two from Hunt. The Titans countered with a 12-point scoring run to increase their lead to 23-10.
In the final eight minutes, the game went possession to possession, but the Warhawks were unable to chip at their deficit as they went into halftime trailing 43-29.
The Titans' advantage swelled to 23 by the 13:07 mark in the second half before back-to-back 3-pointers from Chislom and Ards along with a layup from Ards tightened the score to 56-41.
With 2:46 left to play, UW-O found an 11-0 run to claim the win as UW-W was unable to draw any closer as the game ended with a final score of 86-65.
UW-Whitewater hosts their final regular season WIAC game against UW-Stout on Saturday at 3 p.m.
