The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's basketball team played in its sixth straight one-possession game on Saturday night, falling to UW-Eau Claire 49-47 in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest.

The Warhawks (7-16 overall, 2-10 WIAC) were unable to make a basket to tie or take the lead in the final possession of the game.

Sophomore forward
Breontae Hunt (Milwaukee, Wis./Bay View) recorded a team-high 11 points and nine rebounds with freshman forward
Trevon Chislom (McFarland, Wis./McFarland) just behind with 10 points. Junior forward
Equan Ards (Milwaukee, Wis./Hamilton) was able to hand off four assists. Freshmen
Brian Conaghan (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) and
Rocky Martinez (Waukesha, Wis./West) each registered seven points in the contest.

UW-W held UW-Eau Claire (17-6, 8-4) to 33.3 percent shooting and held the lead for over 27 minutes.

UW-Whitewater started the game with a 7-0 run, beginning with a 3-pointer from Hunt within the first minute of play. With 12:55 left on the clock, Hunt hit an additional 3-pointer to put the team up by 10, which would be their largest lead of the game.

UW-Eau Claire cut its deficit to three with 6:07 on the clock, but the Warhawks scored five unanswered points in the following three minutes to hang onto their lead 29-23 heading into halftime.

The Blugolds came out of the half with a 10-0 run in the first five minutes to take the lead 33-29. Conaghan's layup with 8:54 remaining tied the game up with 39 points apiece. Three minutes later, the Warhawks took back the lead 44-43 with two free throws from Martinez.

UW-Eau Claire made all four of their free throw opportunities to lead 47-46 with three minutes to play. They scored a jumper with 30 seconds left and the Warhawks were unable to make a shot before the clock expired.Â

UW-Whitewater will be back on the road next week to visit UW-Oshkosh on Wednesday. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m.
