The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater football team continues its 2019 non-conference slate this Saturday, Sept. 14, at Concordia-Moorhead, a member of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, for a 12 p.m. kickoff at Jake Christiansen Stadium in Moorhead, Minn.

The Warhawks held Dubuque (Iowa) to 25 yards rushing on 23 carries and totaled 439 yards of offense last Saturday in a 42-7 victory at Perkins Stadium. UW-Whitewater forced three turnovers and held the Spartans to 2-of-11 on third down on the defensive side, and held the ball for nearly 35 minutes and converted 11-of-18 on third down opportunities.
The Warhawks moved up one spot to No. 3 in the D3football.com Top 25, earning 566 points from pollsters. UW-Whitewater trails only No. 1 Mary Hardin-Baylor (Texas), which received 24 of the 25 first-place votes, and No. 2 Mount Union (Ohio). The Warhawks were ranked fourth by Lindy's, Street & Smith and D3football.com entering the new season.
Concordia-Moorhead is picked to finish fourth in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference after placing fifth in the standings in 2018 with a 5-5 record, including a 4-4 mark in league play. The Cobbers have finished with a .500 record or better in 12 consecutive seasons. Concordia-Moorhead opened its 2019 season with a 21-14 overtime loss at UW-La Crosse last Saturday. The team scored with 30 seconds left in regulation to tie the game, but fumbled on its first play after the Eagles had taken the overtime lead.
SERIES
The all-time series between the two teams is tied at 1-1. UW-Whitewater avenged a 25-17 loss at Concordia-Moorhead with a 24-6 home victory on Sept. 8, 2018, at Perkins Stadium. Alex Peete (Ringwood, Ill./Johnsburg) rushed 19 times for 104 yards and one touchdown, and Cole Wilber (Mission Viejo, Calif./Dana Hills) tossed touchdown passes to Mitchell Dess (South Milwaukee, Wis./South Milwaukee) and JT Parish (Cambridge, Wis./Cambridge) in the win. Jacob Erbs (Reedsburg, Wis./Reedsburg) led the defense with eight tackles, and Nate Tranel (Lancaster, Wis./Lancaster) returned a fumble 31 yards to set up a Warhawk field goal.
NOTABLE
- Since the start of the 2004 season, UW-Whitewater is 42-4 in regular season non-conference games, good for a .913 winning percentage. Two of those losses came during the 2017 season and another came against Division II St. Cloud State (2007).
- Warhawks head coach Kevin Bullis, a native of Minnesota, attended Minnesota-Morris, which is just over 100 miles from Concordia-Moorhead.
- UW-Whitewater defeated Bethel (Minn.), another MIAC school, by a 26-12 score in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III Playoffs last season at Perkins Stadium.
- The Warhawks posted 30 first downs against Dubuque last week. The team hit that number only once last season, finishing with 30 in a 59-7 win over UW-Stevens Point.
