No. 23 Softball Falls to Oshkosh on Day One of WIAC Championship

The No. 23 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater softball team sped out to a 2-0 lead but could not hold on and fell to UW-Oshkosh 7-2 Friday in their first game of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship at van Steenderen Complex in Whitewater.

The fifth-seeded Titans, 23-16, opened championship play with a 13-4 win over UW-La Crosse, which was highlighted by a 10-run seventh inning. The hits didn't stop against the top-seeded Warhawks.

UW-W, 26-11, scored a pair in the bottom of the third; one on a passed ball and another on a double by Kayla Seymour (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way West).

The Titans got those back, plus one, in the top of the fourth and never looked back.

They added three more in the sixth, and one more in the seventh to push the final score to 7-2.

Oshkosh finished the day with 25 hits in two games.

Seymour led the Warhawks with two hits in three plate appearances and registered the lone RBI.

UW-W will return to action for an elimination game at noon on Saturday. They will play the winner of a game between UW-La Crosse and UW-Platteville.
