The No. 23 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater softball team suffered its second loss in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (Presented by Culver's), falling 8-7 on Saturday against UW-La Crosse at van Steenderen Softball Complex.

The loss eliminated the Warhawks (26-12 overall) from the conference tournament. The team will find out if it receives an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament during Monday's Selection Show, which is scheduled for 12 p.m. on NCAA.com.

UW-Whitewater tallied six runs in the second inning to take an early lead, but the Eagles (22-17) responded in the bottom half with six of their own to tie the game.

Sophomore left fielder Vera Pflugradt (Lake Zurich, Ill./Stevenson) knocked a solo homer to right center in the top of the third to give the Warhawks a one-run lead, but UW-La Crosse posted single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to flip the one-run advantage.

UW-Whitewater loaded the bases with one out in the top of the seventh, but was unable to push the tying run across.

Pflugradt and senior designated player Kayla Seymour (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way West) collected two hits and one run batted in apiece. Junior first baseman Nicole Neitzel (Verona, Wis./Verona Area) and sophomore right fielder Kaiden Jackson (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) each knocked a run in.

Junior pitcher Bella Matthias (Greenfield, Wis./Greenfield) was dealt the loss, falling to 13-3 on the year after tossing four innings in relief of senior Julia Camardo (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove).

The Warhawks' loss snapped a streak of six straight WIAC Tournament titles.
