No. 17 Volleyball Falls in Regular Season Finale

The No. 17 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater volleyball team suffered a 25-19, 26-24, 25-17 defeat against Aurora (Ill.) in a non-conference match played at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wis.
 
The Warhawks close the regular season with a 21-8 record. The team captured the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season championship outright with a 6-1 league record and will be the top seed in the upcoming WIAC Tournament.
 
Freshman outside hitter Chloe Buescher (Janesville, Wis./Milton) posted a team-best 11 kills and added seven digs. Senior middle hitter Ashton Doll (Lancaster, Wis./Lancaster) collected six kills and four blocks, and sophomore outside hitter Erin McNeil (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) registered five kills, two blocks and five digs.
 
Freshman setter Maggie Streckert (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) tallied 15 assists, while sophomore setter Paige Manssen (Bull Valley, Ill./McHenry West) recorded seven assists to go along with seven digs.
 
Freshman libero Morgan Jensen (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) totaled 23 digs to lead the defense. Sophomore outside hitter Emma Aske (Aurora, Ill./Metea Valley) finished with eight digs and one service ace.
 
UW-Whitewater led 17-16 in the opening set before the Spartans (21-9) ran off five straight points and nine of the last 11 to take a 1-0 match lead.
 
The Warhawks held a 17-12 advantage in the second, but Aurora put together another big run, seizing a 21-19 lead with a 9-2 spurt. After a 3-0 mini-run for UW-W, the two teams traded points to a 24-24 tie. The Spartans finished the set with back-to-back kills to take a 2-0 match advantage.
 
UW-Whitewater never led in the third as Aurora took control of the set early with a 9-3 start.
 
The Warhawks host the winner of the No. 5 seed at fourth-seeded UW-Oshkosh match in the semifinals of the WIAC Championship Thursday at 7 p.m. at Russell Arena.
