The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater football team concludes its regular season schedule this Saturday, Nov. 16, at 6 p.m. as it takes on UW-Oshkosh in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest. Saturday's game will air live on WVTV My24 Milwaukee.

The Warhawks took a 13-3 lead at halftime and held of UW-Stout in the second half for a 37-17 victory last Saturday at Perkins Stadium. UW-Whitewater held the Blue Devils to 54 rushing yards on 35 attempts (1.5 yards per carry) and posted a season-high seven team sacks. Offensively, the Warhawks averaged 5.0 yards per carry and scored twice in the final eight minutes of the contest.

The Warhawks remained at No. 3 in the D3football.com Top 25, earning 571 points from pollsters, and at No. 3 in the American Football Coaches Association Division III Coaches Poll, garnering 1,199 points. UW-Whitewater trails only Mary Hardin-Baylor (Texas), No. 1 in the AFCA poll, and Mount Union (Ohio), No. 1 in D3football.com's Top 25, in both polls. The Warhawks were ranked fourth by Lindy's, Street & Smith and D3football.com entering the new season. 

UW-Oshkosh jumped out to a 14-0 lead six minutes into the game and didn't look back in a 41-20 victory over UW-River Falls. The Titans rushed for 311 yards (6.0 yards per carry) and held the ball for more than 35 minutes in teh win. The UW-O defense recorded four turnovers, including three interceptions. Kobe Berghammer rushed 16 times for 177 yards and two touchdowns, and Peter MacCudden added 20 carries for 81 yards and two scores.

SERIES

UW-Whitewater has won five of the last eight meetings between the two teams. Four of the last seven games in the series have been decided by three points or fewer. Last season, the Warhawks held UW-Oshkosh to 18 yards rushing on 36 carries and took advantage of two 75-plus yards passing plays for a 20-0 triumph on Oct. 6, 2018, at Perkins Stadium. JT Parish (Cambridge, Wis./Cambridge) caught three passes for 197 yards and two touchdowns to lead the offense, while Bailey Breunig (Prairie du Sac, Wis./Sauk Prairie) paced the defense with seven tackles, including one for a loss.

NOTABLE

  • The winner of Saturday's game claims the WIAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Playoffs. UW-Whitewater and UW-Oshkosh have combined to win each of the last 10 conference titles, including seven for the Warhawks (2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2018) and three for the Titans (2012, 2015, 2017).
  • UW-Whitewater wrapped up at least a share of the program's league-leading 37th WIAC championship with last Saturday's win over UW-Stout.
