The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater football team makes its return to Perkins Stadium after two weeks on the road. The team will face UW-La Crosse in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest this Saturday, Nov. 2, at 1 p.m.

Saturday's game can be viewed live on UWW-TV on channel 100.1 on campus, Spectrum channel 989 in the Whitewater area or online. It can also be heard live on KOOL 106.5 FM WKCH in the Whitewater area or online at 940wfaw.com. Fans can also track live statistics here.

The Warhawks tallied 434 yards of total offense and scored 21 unanswered points over a 15-minute span in the second and third quarters last Saturday on their way to a 49-28 victory at UW-River Falls. UW-Whitewater forced a season-high five turnovers to offset 495 yards of total offense by the Falcons, and finished 4-of-4 on conversions in the red zone.

The Warhawks remained at No. 3 in the D3football.com Top 25, earning 566 points from pollsters, and at No. 3 in the American Football Coaches Association Division III Coaches Poll, garnering 1,212 points. UW-Whitewater trails only Mary Hardin-Baylor (Texas), No. 1 in the AFCA poll, and Mount Union (Ohio), No. 1 in D3football.com's Top 25, in both polls. The Warhawks were ranked fourth by Lindy's, Street & Smith and D3football.com entering the new season. 

UW-La Crosse, which is receiving votes in both national polls and was predicted to finish second in the WIAC in the league's preseason poll, scored 28 first-half points in a 31-3 victory over UW-Oshkosh, its first win against UW-Oshkosh since 2011. The Eagles held a 475-201 advantage in total yards and limited UW-Oshkosh to 11 first downs. Evan Lewandowski finished with 352 yards passing and two touchdowns, and Nathan Clark led the defense with six tackles, one interception and one fumble recovery.

SERIES

UW-Whitewater has won 16 straight games against UW-La Crosse dating back to its first victory in the streak in 2005. Last season, the Eagles held a 7-3 halftime lead before the Warhawks registered 27 unanswered points in the second half, including 20 in the fourth quarter, for a 30-7 triumph on Sept. 29, 2018, in La Crosse. Alex Peete (Ringwood, Ill./Johnsburg) rushed for 100 yards and one touchdown, and Cole Wilber (Mission Viejo, Calif./Dana Hills) threw for 253 yards and three scores. Jacob Erbs (Reedsburg, Wis./Reedsburg) and Bryce Leszczynski (Milwaukee, Wis./Pius XI) led the defense with eight and seven tackles, respectively.

NOTABLE

  • Head coach Kevin Bullis officially picked up his 50th career win last week at UW-River Falls. Bullis enters Saturday's game against UW-La Crosse with a 50-7 record and averaged  nearly 11 wins per season entering 2019. A two-time WIAC Coach of the Year, Bullis has led the Warhawks to two WIAC championship and three NCAA Playoffs appearances so far. 
  • The Warhawks and Eagles rank first and second, respectively, in all-time conference championships. UW-Whitewater owns a league-best 36, including 11 of the last 14. UW-L entered the 2019 season with 33, including six in the 1990s and three straight from 2002-04.
