No. 7 Volleyball Downed by Nationally-Ranked Foes

The No. 7 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater volleyball team wrapped up play Saturday at the two-day Emory Invitational in Atlanta, Ga.
 
The Warhawks (21-6 overall) were topped 25-16, 25-15, 25-23 by No. 24 Susquehanna (Pa.), and concluded the tournament with a 25-15, 25-22, 11-25, 25-22 setback against third-ranked Emory.
 
Against Susquehanna (25-4), the River Hawks finished with a .327 hitting percentage and committed only nine attack errors compared to a .146 and 18 errors for UW-Whitewater.
 
Sophomore outside hitter Emily Gillen (Richfield, Wis./Slinger) tallied seven kills on a .500 hitting percentage and three digs, while sophomore outside hitter Erin McNeil (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) posted seven kills, six digs and two blocks.
 
Senior outside hitter Rachel Butterfield (Milton, Wis./Milton) contributed six kills, and freshman outside hitter Chloe Buescher (Janesville, Wis./Milton) registered five kills and three digs. Senior middle hitter Ashton Doll (Lancaster, Wis./Lancaster) collected four kills and two blocks.
 
Sophomore setter Paige Manssen (Bull Valley, Ill./McHenry West) totaled 15 assists. Freshman defensive specialist Morgan Jensen (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) finished with a team-high 11 digs.
 
Against Emory (21-2), a perennial national power, the Warhawks committed 15 attack errors in the first two sets but only four over the final two sets, including one during the third set, when they hit .520 as a team to push the match to a fourth set.
 
Buescher recorded a team-high 13 kills and added eight digs and four blocks. Doll posted 10 kills and a team-best six blocks, and McNeil tallied nine kills, three digs and two blocks. Freshman setter Maggie Streckert (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) finished with 23 assists.
 
Jensen led the back row with 20 digs, and sophomore defensive specialist Hailey Mackenthun (Webster, Minn./Northfield) contributed 10 digs and a team-high four service aces.
 
UW-Whitewater closes the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season this Friday at 7 p.m. against UW-Stevens Point. First serve at Russell Arena is slated for 7 p.m. The team will recognize Butterfield and Doll, the team's seniors, prior to the match.
